About Us
The Manning Avenue Free Studio (MAFS), a 501 (3) (C) organizations, is organized to facilitate, sponsor, and encourage an artistic community, which will enable the linkage of diverse individuals, associations, and institutions to available art and artistic resources.
MAFS will provide, facilitate, sponsor, and encourage, artistic, cultural, and educational activities for the arts in south Sumter, South Carolina. The organization promotes the linkage of individuals with other available resources that promote the arts. MAFS’s space is open daily for instruction, critique, encouragement, motivation, exchange of ideas, and discussion that will support the artist and the community.
MAFS is governed by a board of directors. Board members are Jeronell Bradley, Chairperson; Enoch Buckery, Secretary; Rev. Dr. Ralph Canty; Willie Grate, Treasurer; Lincoln King; Dr. Edmond McDonald; Hayes Samuel; Leroy “Buzzy” Scott; and Carrie Sinkler-Parker. The executive director is David Sanders.
The studio, founded in 1973, is located at 241 Manning Avenue in Sumter, South Carolina. MAFS maintains a gallery at 402 W. Liberty Street, Sumter, South Carolina.
Future plan included the opening of a multipurpose building adjacent to the studio on Manning Avenue.
